Patricia (Miller) Rains lives in San Diego with her husband, John. After receiving her BS in Communications/Journalism from Southern Illinois University, Pat worked most of her career as a freelance writer, newspaper reporter and magazine editor, and for the past 14 years she has owned a book publishing company that specializes in nautical guidebooks. (Website: www.MexicoBoating.com) Pat holds a U.S. Coast Guard 100-Ton Masters License, and John holds a U.S.C.G. 1,500-Ton Masters License. Pat and John frequently travel by boat through the waters of Mexico and Central America, and they give seminars for the owners of cruising yachts. Besides boating, their hobbies are photography, ham radio, astronomy, camping, hiking, scuba diving and spending time with their large family which is spread throughout California, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Washington D.C., Virginia and North Carolina.
